| What if you knew that you could find a refreshing that surpassed an experience you had previously? What if you knew there
was peace and joy and righteousness in a given experience? Have you ever thought about carrying with you a comforting spirit
all the days that you live? Has it ever entered your mind that you could enjoy a companionship, though unseen, yet powerfully
present?
Do you realize that there a constant source of living water that you can enjoy flowing from the depths of you very innermost
being? If you do not know about such tranquility and refreshing, please carefully read the following explanation.
A Living Fountain
Jesus said to the Samaritan woman that if she knew the gift of God and who He was, she could ask and receive "living waters."
This gift, He said, would be in her "a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:14).
Later Jesus extended the promise to those who would believe in Him, stating that anyone can experience in his heart "rivers
of ling waters' (John 7:38). This gift of everlasting life is identified as the Holy Spirit (John 7:39).
In other words, when a person receives the Holy Spirit, he then possesses the "living water." Before His ascension, Jesus
told His disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4-8)). This they did. For several
days they met in prayer and praise. Then it happened.
A Sound From Heaven
About 120 of His disciples had met early on the Day of Pentecost to wait and worship when a sound of rushing wind from
heaven filled the house, and divided tongues, as of fire, came upon each one of them: "And they were all filled with the Holy
Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:4). These disciples were so overwhelmed
that in spiritual ecstasy they spoke of the wonderful works of God in languages they did not know but that others could understand.
Soon thousands of people were attracted to them by the noise, the wonder of speaking with tongues, and the strange actions
of these disciples. "What count this mead?" was the question in the minds of these spectators.
The Apostle Peter answered their questions: God was pouring out His Spirit (Acts 2:17). He told them to repent and be baptized
in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and they also would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. "For the promise
is to you and to your children and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will all" (Acts 2:38-39). On that
day, about three thousand people believed on Jesus Christ, were baptized into Him, and received the "living waters" from Him.
From Jerusalem to Everywhere
But the story does not end in Jerusalem or on the Day of Pentecost. Soon those in Samaria received the Holy Spirit; and
late the Gentiles in Caesarea where filled with the Spirit. The Apostle Paul fount the "living waters' in Damascus and the
Holy Spirit came upon a group of men in Ephesus when Paul prayed for them. Wherever Jesus Christ was preached, people believed
and were filled with the Spirit. What happened in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost merely set the pattern for the entire
world throughout the church age.
What About Today?
Today millions of people from many nations in our world have received the gift of the Holy Spirit with the same sign of
speaking with tongues. They now possess "living waters" that will spring "up into everlasting life"-the guarantee of their
inheritance (Ephesians 1:14). The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in them, and He will also raised their
mortal bodies from the dead, and they will live eternally with Jesus Christ (Romans8:11).
What About You?
Have you received the "living waters" into you live? If not, you can by repenting of past sins, being baptized in the name
of Jesus Christ, and asking God for His Spirit. He does not discriminate against anyone: as He has given to others He will
give to you.
Are you ready to receive "living waters"? The fountain of everlasting life is yours for the asking.
